Mentor/Mentee Trainings

We are committed to the well-being and success of all community members. Columbia complies with all applicable civil rights laws and does not engage in illegal preferences or discrimination.

Mentorship, sponsorship, and coaching are essential to both training and career advancement in scientific and biomedical fields. However, not all faculty have access to high-quality mentorship. Effective mentors need tools, training, and self-awareness to provide optimal guidance and support.

PriME: Pathway to Mentorship Series

The Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and the CUIMC Office of Faculty Professional Development and Engagement have created the PriME: Pathway to Mentorship Series—a five-part program designed to equip mentors with the skills to navigate the "hidden curriculum" of mentorship. This curriculum includes the unspoken norms and expectations critical to successful mentoring relationships, such as interpersonal skills, professional development, and fostering workforce well-being.

Optimizing the Mentor-Mentee Relationship - The Hidden Curriculum of Mentorship

A series on optimizing relationships between mentors and mentees. Each session consists of a lecture followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. Topics covered include:

  • Choosing a mentor/mentee
  • Giving feedback to mentors/mentees
  • Do's and don'ts for mentors/mentees
  • Handling difficulties in the mentor-mentee relationship

Preparing to be an effective mentor

Mentorship, sponsorship, and coaching are tremendously important to the success in training for and in the advancement of scientific/biomedical careers yet not all faculty have access to high quality mentorship. Mentors need tools, training and enhanced self-awareness to provide optimal guidance and support to faculty.

Please note, this session is offered twice and faculty may register for whichever is most convenient with their schedule. This session also counts toward the CUIMC Educator Development Certificate (CEDC) program
