A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
The lifeblood of the academic endeavor is the free-flowing exchange of ideas, and within the academic community are unique opportunities for faculty and students to establish ties with scholars in many academic specialties. The College of Physicians & Surgeons established the Dean's Lecture Series as a formal way to facilitate fruitful intellectual exchange. The lectures emphasize the collaborative nature of scientific inquiry and enrich the traditional scholarly exchange among health sciences faculties, other faculties of Columbia University, and the greater scientific community.
Over the years, we have been fortunate to have as lecturers some of the world's leading scientists, physicians, and scholars—and to honor them for their significant contributions to their fields. Though expert at communicating in the unique languages of their own disciplines, they also have been able to translate their life's work to an audience made up of experts in other disciplines and students just beginning to immerse themselves in academic pursuits.
We are proud of the impact of the Dean's Lecture Series because we are committed to efforts that inspire intellectual curiosity and academic cooperation. Such collaboration reaps benefits that extend far beyond the venue of the lectures themselves.
