Columbia University School Of Dental And Oral Surgery Appoints Dr. Steven Chussid Director Of The Division Of Pediatric Dentistry
New York, N.Y., June 4, 2002 – Dr. Ira B. Lamster, dean of the Columbia University School of Dental Oral Surgery (CUSDOS), has announced the appointment of Dr. Steven Chussid as the director of the Division of Pediatric Dentistry, effective July 1. He succeeds Dr. Martin Davis, who has served in the position since 1995.
Since July 2001, Dr. Chussid has served as associate professor of clinical dentistry and director of the pediatric dentistry postdoctoral program at Columbia University. At NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, he was appointed as an associate attending dentist, and at the same time has been serving as chief of the Dental Service at Blythedale Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, N.Y.
“Steve Chussid has the right background and experience both to strengthen existing partnerships and create new ones within the Columbia Health Sciences Division,” Dr. Lamster said. “He is deeply committed to the concept that oral health is considered as an integral part of overall health.”
Dr. Chussid received his bachelor’s of science degree in 1983 from the State University of New York (SUNY) Stony Brook and his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1988 from SUNY Buffalo. In 1990, Dr. Chussid completed a two-year pediatric dental residency at the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and was awarded a certificate in pediatric dentistry by the Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
Dr. Chussid belongs to various professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and the American Society of Dentistry for Children. Before his appointment at Columbia University, Dr. Chussid served as director of the pediatric dentistry division at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 1994 to 2001.
