P&S Asylum Clinic: Students Work with Law School to Offer Help

The Asylum Clinic works closely with the Columbia Law School’s Immigrants’ Rights Clinic to help asylum seekers in the New York City metropolitan area gain access to pro bono medical evaluations. Medical affidavits are thought to considerably increase the chances for asylum seekers.

The Asylum Clinic, which is part of the P&S Human Rights Initiative, is one of several learning and community service opportunities that exist for students at Columbia’s medical school, the College of Physicians & Surgeons. The clinic is among a group of student-run clinics that offer students the opportunity to work with underserved populations to help alleviate health care disparities afflicting minority, immigrant, and low-income populations.

Other student-run clinics include the Columbia Student Medical Outreach (CoSMO), the Columbia-Harlem Homeless Medical Partnership (CHHMP), and the Columbia University Harm Reduction Outreach Network (CUHRON).
