VP&S Faculty Recognized at 2023 Honors Luncheon
Faculty at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons who were promoted or received notable appointments, honors, and awards during the 2022-2023 academic year were honored at the annual VP&S Dean’s Honors Luncheon on Oct. 5. This was the first time the event was offered in person since 2019.
The event was hosted by Katrina Armstrong, MD, dean of the Faculties of Health Sciences and the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and organized by the Office of Academic Affairs. It included a luncheon and musical performances by Luke Cai’28, Laura Sieh’26, Stephen Tang’27, and P. Jeremy Tervo’25 of the VP&S Musicians' Guild.
In her remarks at the event, Armstrong congratulated the assembled faculty members on their achievements and emphasized that their work helps pave the way for the next generation of scientists, clinicians, and educators.
“You all are here today because you’re on a pathway, built upon the persistence of hope and optimism,” said Armstrong. “Young people are following you who want to do what you’re doing, who want to have the opportunity to have that path. We’re on a journey to make Columbia better, stronger, more respectful, more able to support everyone, better able to hear from our community, so that we make this the best possible place to be, and so that the people coming after you have an easier path to get to these tables in the years to come.”
During the 2022-23 academic year, 27 VP&S faculty members were appointed to endowed professorships, seven received tenure, 47 were promoted to professor, and 76 were appointed to associate professor. Faculty accomplishments recognized by Columbia University and national and international organizations were also honored.
