Thousands Attend CUIMC Employee Appreciation Events
The Columbia University Irving Medical Center employee appreciation lunch, held each year to acknowledge faculty and staff efforts throughout the year, drew 4,000 faculty and staff to this year’s lunch on July 30 at the Armory on Fort Washington Avenue. Another event was held a few days earlier at an Eastside ColumbiaDoctors practice site to acknowledge the efforts of the Epic Together team.

The menu for the July 30 event included Mexican entrees, desserts, and kosher options. Employees seated at dozens of tables set up in the Armory were treated to a soundtrack played by a DJ. Sarita Martinez of the Office of Curricular Affairs at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons enjoyed the music so much that she got up and danced with 4-month-old Etta Mae Park, the daughter of her colleague, Henry Park. “This is very nice,” Martinez said. “It’s nice to get people away from their desks.” Later that day, employees were served their choice of ice cream or frozen fruit bars at Haven Plaza.
On July 26, members of Columbia's EpicTogether team enjoyed a buffet lunch, conversation, and a break from their hard work preparing for the deployment of the Epic electronic health record system in 2020. The event was held at 466 Lexington Ave. Donna Lynne, DrPH, senior vice president and chief operating officer of CUIMC and chief executive officer of ColumbiaDoctors, and Timothy J. Crimmins, MD, RPVI, chief medical information officer of ColumbiaDoctors, joined the attendees.
