Next Steps for Information Technology Services at CUIMC

Dear Colleagues:

As we all know, IT professionals and the services they provide throughout CUIMC are indispensable to our success and always in demand. Meeting our daily obligations and achieving our shared missions require that our systems run smoothly, efficiently, and securely. We also know as a result of recent strategic planning discussions that opportunities exist to better support these functions and to create more cohesive standards and policies governing IT throughout the medical center. Today we are pleased to announce we have taken an important step in that direction with the appointment of Jim Bossio as Chief Information Officer of CUIMC.

Jim joined CUIMC in July following his tenure as Associate Vice President for Infrastructure Services at Columbia University Information Technology. He has been a valued member of the Columbia community and CUIT since 2014. Since arriving at CUIMC as interim CIO, Jim has worked closely with the CUIMC IT team to ensure the continuation of current projects and services while also leading a review of campus IT functions in collaboration with CUIT and our partners at NewYork-Presbyterian. As a result of this review and other feedback received via strategic planning, we are now looking at ways to create a more efficient IT support model, adopt a single set of security standards, and expand the pool of specialized employees available to service IT requests. We will be following up soon with more information on planned steps to better support the IT professionals who power CUIMC and, in turn, create an even more secure landscape and efficient service model for our faculty, staff, and students.

For now, our gratitude goes out to Jim for his leadership during this transition period and, of course, to all those who drive this critical work at CUIMC. This is a welcome next step for the information technology environment at CUIMC and we look forward to sharing more soon. Please join us in congratulating Jim and wishing him well in his new role.

Sincerely,
