New VP&S Faculty

The VP&S Office of Faculty Affairs has provided this list of full-time faculty who joined the medical school in Sept. 2024:

  • Kaley Angers, PhD, Psychiatry: Angers is a clinical neuropsychologist interested in psychosis and at-risk populations, both clinically and in research, as well as neurodegenerative disorders and complex medical conditions with cognitive and behavioral symptoms.
  • Adham Elmously, MD, Surgery: Elmously is a dual-trained cardiac and vascular surgeon who treats the full spectrum of cardiac disease. His special interest is in treating conditions of the aorta using both traditional open and endovascular surgical approaches. His clinical research focuses on the treatment of aortic diseases.
  • Lauren E. Farmer, MD, Ob/Gyn: Farmer provides comprehensive care for patients throughout their lifespan. She is knowledgeable in prenatal care, LGBTQ+ health, family planning, infertility, addiction disorders, hormonal and menstrual disorders, general gynecology, menopause, and care for midlife and later life patients. She is passionate about enhancing health equity and access, both as a gynecologic surgeon and an obstetrician.
  • Jaryd M. Frankel, DO, Psychiatry
  • Ani Fredman, PhD, Psychiatry: Fredman is an instructor in medical psychology at the Gender & Sexuality Program and a researcher at New York State Psychiatric Institute. Their research interests center on questions of identity and development related to attachment, gender, and sexuality, with the aim of developing therapeutic interventions that increase LGBTQ+ joy, connectedness, and quality of life.
  • Divya Jayaraman, MD, PhD, Neurology: Jayaraman's clinical expertise and practice focuses on neuromuscular disorders of infancy, childhood and adolescence, including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy, myasthenia gravis, inherited and acquired myopathies and neuropathies, as well as general pediatric neurology.
  • Simone Jhaveri, MD, Pediatrics
  • Shadi Khalil, MD, PhD, Dermatology: Khalil is a dermatopathologist and board-certified dermatologist with an interest in skin cancer and skin rashes. His professional interests focus on nutrient metabolism of the skin.
  • Belkis Y. Martinez, PhD, Ob/Gyn: Martinez focuses on addressing socio-structural and intersectional factors that impact mental health outcomes and patients’ experiences of care across various health systems.
  • Caroline Min, MD, Ob/Gyn
  • Katja Pinker-Domenig, MD, Radiology: Pinker-Domenig is a board-certified radiologist with expertise in breast imaging. Her research interests are focused on advanced functional multimodality breast imaging and the implementation of artificial intelligence into breast imaging.
  • Carlos A. Plancarte, MD, Pediatrics: Plancarte is a pediatric hospitalist whose research focuses on health care co-management and health care equity.
  • Fahim F. Pyarali, MD, Medicine: Pyarali is an interventional pulmonologist whose professional interests include robotic navigation bronchoscopy for peripheral pulmonary nodules and the management of complex airway diseases. He also has an appointment in the Department of Surgery.
  • Michel W.J. Sadelain, MD, PhD, Medicine: Sadelain is a globally recognized pioneer of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) immunotherapy, a revolutionary approach to cancer treatment. He is the inaugural director of the Columbia Initiative for Cell Engineering and Therapy (CICET) and director of the Cancer Cell Therapy Initiative in the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center.
  • Juliet Alison Schwarz, PsyD, Psychiatry: Schwarz is a clinical psychologist at CUCARD-Westchester. She specializes in treating OCD and anxiety disorders in children, teens, and adults.
  • Janice S. Sung, MD, Radiology: Sung is a board-certified radiologist specializing in breast imaging. Her research focuses on imaging for early breast cancer detection in women who are at intermediate and high risk for developing breast cancer. 
  • Marcy Susman, MD, Radiology: Susman is a board-certified radiologist who specializes in breast imaging and is experienced in breast imaging and breast cancer diagnosis, including mammography, tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, and breast biopsies.
