College Of Dental Medicine Raises Funds For Oral Cancer Awareness And Research

NEW YORK, April 18, 2007 - Students from Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine joined forces with students from other top dental schools Saturday to raise funds for oral cancer research and awareness programs. The Columbia chapter of the Student National Dental Association joined about 500 walkers in raising nearly $30,000 at the second annual Oral Cancer Walk in Harlem. Oral cancer kills more than 7,000 American men and women each year

The walk featured inspiring stories from oral cancer survivors and free oral cancer screening at sites along the walk route.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Columbia's Tobacco Cessation Clinic to help increase awareness and create sustainable programs for the surrounding community.
